Culture Grant Proposal

What’s the Purpose?
Revitalize our culture through activities & events in the amount of $140,000 in 2011 and $20,000 in 2012.

Who does it benefit?
All Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw members.

What does it cover?
Healing Feast – rebirth & coming together as a community, Carved masks, reposition our totems, canoe repair, trip to our traditional territories, language revival, traditional food gathering

Apr. 3, 2012 Update

Walter Brown has been chosen as the winning bidder to do the tla'malas, based on having a thorough story to go along with his design. Stay tuned for updates on this project!

Mar. 22, 2012 Update

Note that submissions are being requested for designs for a Tla'malas, please pick up application forms at the front desk of the Band Office. You can find more details here.

Jan. 12, 2012 Update

The feast has been re-scheduled to March 3, 2012, to follow the Truth & Reconciliation Commission hearings in Port Hardy. Oliver Walkus successfully bid on the gift-buying, and John Henderson successfully bid on the catering.

Nov. 29, 2011 Update

The healing feast has been scheduled for January 21, 2012 at the Wa'kas Hall in Tsulquate.
