The Child & Family Services Department is composed of the following staff:
Director of Child & Family Services - Dean Wilson
The Director of Child & Family Services (DCFS) is the strategic lead for Child & Family Services for the GN Nation. This position works closely with the Chief & Council, Band Administrator, Health Director and other relevant program leads in the development, implementation and monitoring of a Child & Family Services Strategic Plan. A key long term strategy is to pursue the development of a Delegated Aboriginal Agency to exercise jurisdiction over Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw Children.
Child, Youth & Family Wellness Outreach Worker - Willie Walkus
The Child, Youth & Family Wellness Outreach Worker provides a link to the Child & Youth Mental Health team of MCFD, and supports initiatives to improve community mental health.
Case Manager - Eleanor Wilson
The Case Manager supervises the case practice of the Child & Family Services team and is the primary liaison with MCFD and the RCMP. The Case Manager coordinates responses to child protection investigations with MCFD and ensures support plans are in place for families and children in care.
Family Support Worker - Maggie Jack
The Family Support Worker provides support services to community members involved with MCFD to improve family functioning and reduce the numbers of children in care.
Youth Addictions/Family Support Worker - Laura Burns
The Youth Addictions/Family Support Worker (YAFSW) provides prevention and intervention addictions services to GN youth; as well as support services to community members involved with MCFD to improve family functioning and reduce the number of children in care.
Mental Health Outreach - Joanne Brotchie
The Mental Health Outreach Worker is responsible for coordinating suicide responses for community members of all ages, and other community crises, as well as arranging for follow up supports.
Addictions Counselor - Laura Burns
The Addictions Counselor provides prevention and intervention addictions services to GN community members, including counseling, treatment referrals and after care planning.
